The actual methods of preparing those delectable crustaceans, lobsters, via dropping them in boiling water alive, are quite controversial. That is where the UK company, Studham Technologies Limited, comes in. For the past decade they have been developing what they say is a humane way to kill the lobsters, a device called CrustaStun. CrustaStun sends the lobster an instant electric jolt, that applies no pain or stress, when the lobster is to be killed.
“I am entirely aware this product will be greeted at first with some skepticism among people in the lobster industry in Eastern Canada and northeastern United States,” said Mr. Buckhaven (owner of Studham), of what he called the world’s first crustacean stunner.
But he said the animal rights movement in Europe and the United States is gaining traction by protesting the traditional method of killing a lobster in boiling water, prior to serving it with melted lemon or garlic butter.
Naturally, PETA got wind of this, and purchased two of them. They paid for both Mr. Buckhaven and his wife to fly to Arizona for a huge lobster dinner fundraiser many animal rights activists were attending, and had the two zappers shipped there as well to demonstrate. Unfortunately, the CrustaStun’s were lost in transit, and activists had to turn away as hundreds of the lobsters ended up getting boiled.
How you manage to lose two large crustacean zappers, is beyond me. What do you think about the zapper device?
